Awards

The Sunshine Coast Business Women's Network Business Woman’s Awards are held annually to recognise the Woman behind the business.

Now in its 13th year the awards evening is noted for its professionalism and are recognised as one of the most respected award events on the Sunshine Coast. Many of the past winners have gone on to become finalists of, and even as far as to win, the state and national Telstra Business Awards.

The categories in the awards are

  • Young Business Woman sponsored by The Weekender
  • Corporate Business Woman sponsored by The Events Centre
  • Micro Small Business Woman sponsored by University of the Sunshine Coast, Faculty of Business
  • Professional Business Woman sponsored by Telstra Business
  • Sports Woman of the Year sponsored by Advance Sports
  • Outstanding Business Woman sponsored by Garland Waddington

Why Nominate?

Being nominated in the Sunshine Coast Business Women’s Network Business Woman's Awards is about more than the business you are in. It is about all of who you are. It is about how you find balance in life, about how you contribute to the community and about what you put in to your business.

By nominating someone in the Business Woman’s Awards you are paying them a compliment of the highest order. Whether or not they become a finalist or even a category winner they will know that you respect them as a Business Woman.

Why Enter?

Entering any Awards does take time and thought and these awards are no different, so why would you want to take time out of your busy day to complete your submission? There are several reasons.

Whether you become a finalist or not the process of writing a submission is a chance for you to really reflect on what you have achieved. It is a chance for you to put into words the positive aspects of you and your accomplishments.

If you are chosen as a finalist you will receive publicity for yourself and your business or company through the Business Women’s Network. For the last few years finalists have also received a write up in the Sunshine Coast Daily and this relationship looks to continue in the future.

For the four finalists that go through as winners in their category and the one overall Business Woman of the Year there is a year ahead of celebration, recognition, publicity and personal and professional growth; not only for yourself but for other Sunshine Coast women in business

(Testimonial – Sue Scheinpflug 2009 Professional BWoY and 2009 Queensland Telstra BWoY 2009 was an amazing year for me. I had been approached in previous years to accept nomination for the Sunshine Coast Business Woman of the Year Awards, but I was always too busy and I wasn’t sure that a senior manager in the not-for-profit sector would be considered. I was in for a big surprise. My Board Chair and another Board member nominated me for the Award in 2009. I was also nominated, that year, by Telstra Country Wide’s regional manager for the Queensland Telstra Business Women's Awards. I accepted both nominations – and am forever grateful to these colleagues and mentors for what followed – one of the most fascinating and fulfilling years of my life.

The SCBWN event preceded the Telstra Awards. It was one of the most professionally organised and managed events I have ever attended, a showcase of the business acumen, professionalism and event management talent of the SCBWN team. The SCBWN Awards provide a platform for the diverse and talented business women (award nominees) from across the Sunshine Coast to come together and learn from each other. I was honoured to win the Sunshine Coast Professional Business Woman of the Year Award and genuinely humbled by the quality of the other finalists.

Unbeknown to me at the time, I had also been selected as a finalist in the Queensland Telstra Business Women’s Award. It is history now, but I went on to win both the Telstra White Pages Community and Government Award and the overall 2009 Telstra Queensland Business Woman of the Year Award.

The SCBWN Award was not just a stepping stone for my two Telstra Awards. It was an essential experience for me in its own right. In many ways it was my first and my proudest moment - to be recognised by my peers in my own region for the work I have done and for the organisation that I lead in our shared community.

I encourage every business woman on the Sunshine Coast to consider nominating for these Awards. Win or lose, the SCBWN Awards are an enjoyable and rewarding opportunity to celebrate the amazing contribution that women are making to our business community.)
